Overview

The Department of Periodontology & Implantology focuses on both Preventive and Corrective approaches in managing Gingival and Periodontal Diseases, as well as Dental Implants. Our department equips students with a solid understanding of the theoretical foundations and fundamental sciences essential for maintaining periodontal health and addressing related diseases, alongside Implantology. Our objective is to elevate the standards of Periodontology & Implantology to match the global best practices. The curriculum is thoughtfully crafted to expose students to the latest advancements and emerging trends in these fields. We prioritize providing cutting-edge clinical training in all aspects of Periodontology and Surgical Implant Dentistry to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our programs are meticulously designed to fulfill the formal educational standards set by the Dental Council of India. Students undergo comprehensive training to deliver holistic treatment to patients, encompassing Non-Surgical and Surgical Periodontal Therapy, as well as dental implants.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

  • MDS Periodontics provides extensive care and information that can help children or adults who are dealing with diseases pertaining to their gums.
  • Periodontics helps those candidates who are dealing with the effectiveness & how salubrious tissues can be supporting the teeth and their long life to staying healthy.
  • While studying MDS Periodontics, the course equips students to prevent their prospective patients from all oral diseases such as gingiva, periodontal ligaments, root cementum, supporting alveolar bone, among other problems.
  • After pursuing MDS Periodontics, students will have the option to do research in the same field.
  • With comprehensive knowledge, a Periodontist can perform operational or non-operational procedures with ease in order to help patients with any periodontal illness.
  • Once becoming a Periodontics, a person becomes perfectly capable of treating patients’ oral problems. Besides that, there are some of the common treatments that periodontics are more likely to perform such as Scaling and root planing, Cosmetic gum surgeries, Alveolar bone surgeries, Curettage, Gum surgeries etc.

FUTURE ACTION PLAN

  • Goal: Establish a fully digital workflow for periodontal diagnostics, treatment planning, and surgical interventions.
  • Initiatives:
    • Implement AI-driven diagnostic tools to enhance the accuracy and predictability of periodontal disease detection and classification.
    • Develop protocols for digital treatment planning using CBCT, intraoral scanners, and 3D printing for guided surgery and custom prosthetics.
    • Train faculty and students in the application of machine learning algorithms for predictive analytics and personalized treatment strategies.
  • Collaborate with biomedical research departments to develop biomaterials, growth factors, and stem cell therapies for periodontal regeneration.
  • Establish a Center for Regenerative Periodontics dedicated to clinical trials and translational research.
  • Integrate laser-assisted regenerative techniques and minimally invasive surgical approaches into clinical practice and education.
  • Develop joint clinical programs with orthodontics, prosthodontics and oral surgery.
  • Expand the curriculum to include interdisciplinary case management and collaborative treatment planning.
  • Establish a dedicated Implantology Unit for training, research, and advanced clinical care.
  • Conduct research into peri-implant disease prevention, management, and the development of next-generation implant surfaces and coatings.
  • Implement eco-friendly materials and waste reduction protocols in clinical operations.
  • Design and maintain a green clinical environment with energy-efficient technologies and reduced carbon emissions.
  • Engage in research on biodegradable materials for use in periodontal therapy and surgery
  • Implement teleperiodontics for remote consultations and follow-up care, particularly for underserved populations.
  • Develop patient-centric educational programs to promote oral health literacy and preventive care
  • Create a Patient Experience Enhancement Program focused on reducing treatment anxiety and improving overall satisfaction.
