Oral pathology is a specialty in dentistry and discipline of pathology which deals with the nature, identification and extent of  disease affecting the oral and facial regions. It is a science that investigates the causes, processes and effects of the diseases. The specialty also deals with the forensic odontology which is currently gaining momentum in India. The practice of oral pathology includes research and diagnosis of diseases using clinical, radiographic, biochemical, histopathological or other investigations. The department runs a separate hematology unit wherein blood samples are collected and analyzed. This branch also teaches dental anatomy and dental histology which form the basis for other dental subjects.
