1. Public Health Dentistry

Community-focused dentistry. Preventive healthcare. Research-driven learning.

The MDS program in Public Health Dentistry at KLRS Lenora Institute of Dental Sciences focuses on improving oral health at the community level. The program brings together public health, preventive dentistry, community outreach and research to help students understand oral health needs across different populations. Students learn to identify community health concerns, conduct oral health surveys, provide health education and plan preventive strategies. Through fieldwork, dental camps and outreach programmes, they gain practical experience working with rural communities, school children, elderly people and individuals with special healthcare needs.

The department provides students with opportunities to work directly with communities through its outreach activities. Its Mobile Dental Van reaches rural areas of the East Godavari district, including school children, elderly people and individuals with special healthcare needs.

LIDS also operates satellite dental clinics at Visranthipuram and Dowaleswaram and runs a tobacco cessation centre. Students gain exposure to preventive and comprehensive dental care through screening programmes, dental camps and community-based treatment.

4. Faculty & Mentorship

Taking Oral Healthcare Beyond the Clinic

At the Department of Public Health Dentistry, we help students understand how oral health can be improved not just for individuals, but for entire communities. Our training combines classroom learning with community outreach, fieldwork and practical experience, helping students understand real-world oral health needs, especially among underserved populations. The department also encourages students to take part in research focused on improving access to care, preventing oral diseases and developing practical solutions for community health. Through education, research and community engagement, we prepare students to contribute meaningfully to public health and make oral healthcare more accessible to all.
