The MDS program in Periodontology & Implantology at KLRS Lenora Institute of Dental Sciences focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth, along with dental implant care. The program combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on clinical training in non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapy and implant dentistry. Students learn to assess periodontal conditions, plan appropriate treatment and manage patients through a range of periodontal and implant procedures. With exposure to preventive care, surgical procedures, implant placement and newer techniques, the program helps students build the clinical knowledge and skills needed for practice in Periodontology and Implantology.

A Structured Learning Journey in Periodontology & Implantology
The MDS program combines academic learning with clinical training to help students develop a strong understanding of periodontal diseases and their management. The curriculum covers periodontal health, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment planning, periodontal surgery and dental implantology.

7. Research & Future Development
Research That Looks Ahead
Research and innovation are important parts of the department's future development. The department plans to strengthen research in areas such as periodontal regeneration, biomaterials, growth factors, stem cell therapies and peri-implant disease.
It also plans to explore AI-assisted periodontal diagnostics, CBCT-based treatment planning, intraoral scanning, 3D printing, guided surgery and machine-learning applications in periodontal care. Other planned initiatives include a dedicated Implantology Unit, a Centre for Regenerative Periodontics and interdisciplinary clinical programs with Orthodontics, Prosthodontics and Oral Surgery.
The department also plans to explore teleperiodontics, patient education, preventive oral healthcare and more sustainable approaches to clinical practice.
