Begin Your Journey Towards
Excellence in Dentistry
Build a strong foundation in dental sciences through comprehensive academic learning, clinical exposure and hands-on patient care at LIDS.
1. Oral Medicine & Radiology
Clinical diagnosis. Radiographic interpretation. Evidence-led dental care.
The MDS program in Oral Medicine and Radiology at KLRS Lenora Institute of Dental Sciences focuses on the diagnosis and clinical evaluation of conditions affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. Students develop their understanding of oral diseases, patient assessment and the role of radiology in reaching an accurate diagnosis and planning appropriate care. The program combines academic learning, clinical exposure and faculty guidance to help students connect patient history and clinical findings with the right diagnostic investigations. Students also gain experience in areas such as oral cancer screening, biopsies, CBCT interpretation, management of medically compromised patients and other diagnostic and treatment procedures.

2. Program / Course Structure
A Structured Learning Journey in Oral Medicine & Radiology
The MDS program is designed to build clinical and diagnostic skills progressively across three years. Students begin with core diagnostic procedures and patient assessment, and gradually move towards advanced radiographic interpretation, management of complex cases and research.
| Year | Academic Focus | Clinical Exposure |
|---|---|---|
| First Year | Diagnostic methods, oral medicine, radiology, research methodology and basic clinical skills | 600+ case history recordings, 500+ intraoral radiographs, 20+ FNACs, 15+ biopsies and rotational postings in General Medicine, General Radiology, Forensics, Radiology and ENT |
| Second Year | Advanced oral medicine, radiographic diagnosis, CBCT and management of medically compromised patients | 50+ extraoral radiograph tracings, 10+ CBCT interpretations, 50+ extraoral radiographic procedures and exposure to special cases and medically compromised patients |
| Third Year | Advanced diagnosis, radiological interpretation, clinical management, research and dissertation work | 100+ OPG interpretations, 500+ periapical views, 50+ bitewing views, 50+ occlusal views, 500+ extraoral radiographic views, 100+ CBCT interpretations and treatment of mucosal lesions using lasers |
3. Clinical Infrastructure
Learning Diagnosis Through Real Clinical Cases
Clinical exposure is a major part of postgraduate training in Oral Medicine and Radiology at LIDS. Students work with patients from their first year onwards, learning to take detailed histories, conduct clinical examinations and select appropriate investigations.
The department provides exposure to a range of diagnostic tools and procedures, including digital radiography, CBCT, OPG, intraoral radiography, biopsies, FNAC, oral cancer screening and intraoral cameras. Students also gain experience in identifying uncommon conditions and managing medically compromised patients.
4. Faculty & Mentorship
Bridging Dentistry, Medicine & Advanced Diagnostics
We equip postgraduate students with advanced clinical knowledge and practical expertise through a structured 3-year program focused on diagnosis, imaging and multidisciplinary patient care. Established in 2014, the department combines digital dentistry with comprehensive training in diagnosing and managing complex conditions, including oral ulcers, precancerous lesions, autoimmune diseases, neuralgias, orofacial pain, TMJ disorders and oral cancers. Students gain hands-on exposure to oral cancer screening, biopsies, digital radiography, CBCT imaging and advanced treatment techniques such as intra-lesional injections, custom oral devices, TENS and laser therapy. With a strong focus on research, grants, forensic applications and compassionate patient care, the department prepares future specialists to approach oral health with clinical precision and a holistic perspective.

7. Research & Publications
Building Better Diagnostic Approaches Through Research
Research is an important part of the MDS program at LIDS. Students are encouraged to present papers and posters, publish their work and explore areas related to oral medicine, radiology and patient diagnosis.
The department also highlights research grants received by students and faculty achievements in research and professional organisations. Research and clinical training together help students develop a more evidence-based approach to diagnosis and patient care.
