1. Digital Dentistry

Digital learning. Advanced technology. Future-ready dentistry.

Revolutionizing Dental Education with Digital Technology At KLRS Lenora Institute of Dental Sciences, the Department of Digital Dentistry introduces students to the technologies and digital workflows that are becoming an important part of modern dental practice. The department combines academic learning with hands-on exposure to digital tools, helping students understand how technology can improve diagnosis, treatment planning and patient care. With modern digital facilities and guidance from experienced faculty, students get the opportunity to learn how different digital technologies are used across various areas of dentistry.

2. What is Digital Dentistry?

Digital Dentistry uses modern digital technologies to make dental diagnosis, treatment planning and patient care more accurate and efficient. It replaces or improves many traditional methods through tools that allow dentists to capture, plan, design and create dental treatments digitally.

Students are introduced to digital workflows that can improve precision, reduce errors and make treatment more comfortable and convenient for patients.

3. Key Areas of Focus

Learning the Technologies Behind Modern Dentistry

The department provides exposure to several important areas of digital dentistry, giving students an understanding of how technology can be used across diagnosis, treatment planning, restorative dentistry, implantology, orthodontics and aesthetic dentistry.

Intraoral Scanners (IOS)

Students learn how intraoral scanners can be used to create digital impressions directly inside the patient's mouth. This provides a more comfortable alternative to traditional impression methods while supporting accurate digital workflows.

CAD/CAM Technology

Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing allow dental restorations to be digitally designed and manufactured. Students are introduced to their use in creating crowns, bridges, veneers and implant prosthetics.

3D Printing in Dentistry

3D printing allows digital designs to be converted into physical dental models and components. Students learn about its applications in dental models, surgical guides and prosthetic components, along with its role in creating customised dental appliances.

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)

CBCT provides detailed three-dimensional images that support diagnosis and treatment planning. Students understand its applications in areas such as implant placement, orthodontics and oral surgery.

Digital Smile Design (DSD)

Digital Smile Design uses specialised software to plan smiles virtually. It helps students understand how digital tools can be used to plan aesthetic and functional restorations and communicate treatment possibilities with patients.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Dentistry

Students are introduced to the growing role of AI in dental diagnosis and treatment planning. AI applications can support clinical decision-making across areas including prosthodontics, orthodontics and oral pathology.

Facial Scanning for Prosthodontics

Facial scanning can be combined with CAD/CAM technology to help create prosthetic restorations that complement a patient's facial features. This approach helps bring together dental function, prosthetic design and facial aesthetics.
