Overview

The Department of Public Health Dentistry is committed to delivering preventive oral healthcare services to patients, recognizing the increasing importance of prevention in dental health. Our primary focus lies in devising effective strategies to enhance the dental well-being of the population, particularly in underserved areas lacking basic oral healthcare facilities. To bridge this gap, we actively engage in outreach activities. Moreover, the department plays a pivotal role in training undergraduate students in oral disease prevention and control, as well as promoting oral health through community initiatives. We encourage students to hone their abilities in identifying societal health issues, conducting health surveys, offering health education, and devising strategies to address these concerns. This approach fosters a positive and empathetic outlook among students towards societal health challenges, instilling a sense of responsibility for improving community health. Additionally, we operate a tobacco cessation center to aid individuals in quitting tobacco use, encompassing both smoking and smokeless forms. Our Mobile Dental Van reaches various parts of the East-Godavari district, specifically targeting rural populations, school children, individuals with special healthcare needs, and the elderly. Through this initiative, we provide a range of treatments including oral prophylaxis, restorations, emergency root canal procedures, and extractions. Furthermore, satellite dental clinics have been established in Visranthipuram and Dowaleswaram to address the oral health needs of village populations.

Professor and HOD

As the Head of the Department of Public Health Dentistry, it is both an honor and a privilege to welcome you to our vibrant and dynamic academic community. Our department is committed to the mission of improving the oral health and well-being of populations through education, research, and community engagement.
At Lenora institute of dental sciences, we take pride in our comprehensive approach to public health dentistry, which equips our students with the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking necessary to address the complex oral health challenges of today. Our program emphasizes a holistic, community-centered approach to oral health, which not only focuses on disease prevention but also on the promotion of health equity and the advancement of public health policies that have a lasting impact on underserved populations.

Our faculty members are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of public health dentists, researchers, and policymakers who will lead efforts in disease prevention, health education, and advocacy. Through a blend of innovative teaching methods, including community outreach, fieldwork, and cutting-edge research, we prepare our students to contribute to the global movement toward better oral health for all.

The department’s research activities are deeply rooted in the needs of communities, and we are proud of our ongoing work to address oral health disparities, improve access to care, and create evidence-based strategies that influence public health programs at the local, national, and global levels. Our students are encouraged to engage in meaningful research that makes a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and communities.

As we move forward, we remain committed to strengthening partnerships with public health organizations, governmental bodies, and other academic institutions to advance our collective goals. Together, we can build a future where oral health is recognized as an essential part of overall well-being, and where everyone, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status, has access to the care they need.

I invite you to explore the opportunities within our department and join us in this important mission to make a positive impact on the oral health landscape. Whether through education, research, or community service, we are all working toward a common goal: to improve the health and lives of individuals, families, and communities across the globe.

Thank you for your interest in our work, and I look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with you in advancing the field of public health dentistry.
